The corona pandemic has brought along a lot of challenges for abortion “migrants” as well as for people inside of the Netherlands. The pandemic proves once again how fragile women’s reproductive rights really are. Around the world, including in countries where abortion is legal, the spread of Covid-19 has seen the dramatic scaling-back – and in some cases, attempted suspension – of essential abortion services. Last month Abortion Network Amsterdam funded a second-trimester abortion and a hostel stay for two nights for a young Polish person. She was assisted by members of a feminist organization from Poland (solidarity❤️), one of whom drove her all the way to the Netherlands and back for the abortion. Upon return both she and the driver were quarantined for two weeks, as required by current Polish regulations. This is what it takes to get an abortion in a pandemic!
If you didn’t know, abortions in the Netherlands are pretty expensive if you don’t have insurance.
Abortion Network Amsterdam has set up a Gofundme to fund one second-trimester abortion in full.
It sucks to be quarantined for everyone, but it sucks just a little more when you’re dealing with an unwanted pregnancy. Abortion Network Amsterdam has been flooded with requests for help over the past couple of weeks and could really use your financial support, especially now that they cannot connect in real life and raise money at events like we normally do.
More requests for financial help are coming in as the pandemic continues and people are literally trapped with nowhere to go and very little income. Abortion Network Amsterdam of course knows this is a rough time for everyone, but if you can miss even just one euro they will gladly take it (but more is always welcome 😉). Sharing this post also really, really helps them!
